This paper focuses on the unique responsibilities of state supreme courts or state judicial councils, local government boards and agencies, and individual judicial officers and court staff to enhance the security of court facilities and the safety of those who work for and use the court system. Inherent in this discussion are the three fundamental elements of effective court security: communication and collaboration between stakeholders at all levels, the willingness of leadership to prioritize security issues, and active oversight and funding for improvements.
